Long travel is not a bolt-on. Expect fabrication work, expect to address fender clearance, and expect the vehicle to be wider — which affects trail width, garage fit and, in some places, road legality. You will also want shocks matched to the kit rather than reusing factory units, and the chassis reinforcement parts that keep the extra load from finding the weakest stamping.

For most people, yes. Mid travel adds meaningful wheel travel while keeping close to factory track width, installs far more easily, and does not change the footprint of the vehicle. Long travel is the right answer when you are racing, pre-running, or driving fast enough in rough desert that mid travel genuinely runs out. How much wider will my truck be?

Approximately three inches per side at the front. Plan for fender coverage and check your garage.

Do I need new shocks?

Effectively yes. A long travel kit is designed around shocks with the stroke to use the travel. Reusing factory shocks wastes the kit.

Can I install this myself?

Only if you can fabricate and weld to a high standard. Most customers have this installed by us or by an experienced off-road shop.

Should I reinforce the chassis first?

Yes, on a truck with hard miles on it. More travel means more load into the same factory structure. Arm pockets, coil buckets and shock towers are where that shows up.
