Alcon big brake kit for the Ram TRX showing a drilled rotor, red calipers and mounting brackets

Ram TRX Performance

2021-2024 Ram TRX Performance

The Alcon front big brake kit for the 2021–2024 Ram 1500 TRX. A supercharged truck weighing close to three tons on 35s does not need help going faster. It needs help slowing down.

Alcon is the brake we specified for our own desert race truck program, which is why it is the one we sell.

The Problem Is Heat, Not Grip

The TRX left the factory with brakes sized for a very heavy truck, and on paper they are substantial. In a single stop from speed they do their job.

Where it comes apart is repetition. Every stop converts the truck's momentum into heat in the rotors, and a 6,000-plus pound truck carries a lot of momentum. Do it once and the rotors shed the heat before the next corner. Do it six times down a mountain grade, or on a fast dirt road with a corner at the end of each straight, and the heat accumulates faster than it dissipates. The pedal goes long, the bite fades, and stopping distance grows exactly when you need it not to.

That is a thermal capacity problem, and the answer is more rotor — more mass to absorb heat, more surface area to shed it, and a multi-piston caliper spreading pad pressure evenly so the friction stays consistent as things get hot. A stickier pad does not fix it; it just moves where the heat goes.

Now add 37s, a bed rack and a full fuel jug. The margin the factory sized in is already spent.

Where the Money Actually Works on a TRX

We are a suspension and chassis shop, so take this as it is intended: on the TRX, suspension and brakes change what the truck can do far more than power adders will.

The supercharged Hemi is not the limiting factor on this truck — it never was. Grip, control, stopping distance and the strength of the parts holding the wheels on are the limits. A TRX with better arms, real bump stop control and brakes that survive a descent is a meaningfully faster truck across ground. A TRX with more boost is the same truck with a worse thermal problem.

If you are building a 2021–2024 TRX and asking what to buy first, our honest order is: bump stop and limit strap control, then arms and tie rods, then brakes, then power.

2021-2024 TRX Brake FAQs

Will it clear my wheels?

Big brake kits need caliper clearance, and it is the inner barrel shape that decides it rather than diameter alone. Check the clearance information on the product page against your wheels before ordering, especially with an aftermarket wheel that has a lot of inboard spoke shape.

Does this fit the 2027 TRX?

The kit is listed for 2021 and up — confirm the model year on the product page, and see 2027+ TRX Performance for that truck.

Front only, or front and rear?

Front-only is the common upgrade and where roughly 70 percent of the braking work happens. A rear kit balances the system for sustained high-speed use.

Is it street legal?

Yes. It is a performance street and off-road brake upgrade, not a race-only component.

What else should I upgrade on a TRX?

Suspension arms, bump stops and underbody protection. The TRX makes short work of factory components once you actually use it off-road.

Will fresh fluid help?

Yes, and it is cheap. Brake fluid boils long before pads give up, and boiling fluid is what produces a pedal that goes to the floor. High-temperature fluid is worth doing whenever you fit a big brake kit.

Shipping

What countries do you ship to?

We currently ship to the United States, and Canada. To enquire about shipping to a different destination, please contact us. We can assist you with finding a shipping broker to ship products to other US friendly countries.

How long will it take to receive my order?

Standard shipping normally takes 3-5 days after it leaves our facility. Next day shipping is available on all domestic orders (for an additional charge). International shipping times depend on the products and destination (estimated at checkout). Products we have in stock at the time of order normally ship within 48 hours. Products not in stock can take 4-6 weeks depending on production. Consult your customer service representative for details on product stock and how quickly an item can ship to you.

Are Products in stock or built to order?

We try to maintain reasonable stock of all of our Foutz Motorsports manufactured parts but sometimes we will run short and have to manufacture more to fill orders. Some items we only build to stock due to complexity of a kit or sometimes higher cost items would be built to order. Best to consult your sales representative for details on what we have on hand before placing your order. Normally production time runs up to about 4-6 weeks for any items that we dont have on hand.
