Ram TRX Protection kits

The 2021–2024 TRX and the 2027 TRX are separate platforms and the parts do not interchange. Order by year.

Underbody skid plate kit

The main plate package covering the vulnerable centre section — oil pan, transmission and transfer case. These are the components that end a trip when they are holed, and the ones a factory splash shield does nothing for.

Rear differential skid plate

The diff sits low and is cast, so it cracks rather than bends. Expensive, and directly in the firing line of whatever the rear tires roll over.

Rear shock skid kit

Protects the bottom of the rear shocks and their mounting points from impact from below. A dented shock body means the piston no longer moves cleanly — that shock is finished.

Rear Shock Guard Mud Flap Kit

An 18" x 7" heavy-duty rubber flap on a steel bracket, bolted to the upper side of the frame ahead of the shock. It blocks the rock and roost the front tire throws straight back at the shock body.

People often assume these overlap. They do not, and running one is not a reason to skip the other.

A skid plate stops a single hard impact from below — the rock ledge, the buried stump, the rut you did not see. It is armour against one big event.

A mud flap guard stops slow attrition — the constant blasting of grit and small rock against the shock body and shaft that scores the surface, then eats the seal, then leaks. Nothing dramatic ever happens; the shock just quietly dies a season early.

A truck that sees a lot of high-speed dirt needs both. A truck that mostly crawls rock needs the skids first.

Do 2021-2024 TRX skid plates fit the 2027 truck?

No. The 2027 TRX is a different platform with its own parts. Order by model year.

Which matters more, the diff skid or the shock skid?

On most trucks the rear differential is the more expensive thing to damage, so it goes first. If you run rocky terrain the shock skids matter just as much, because a punctured shock body ends the day where a scraped diff plate does not.

Do mud flap kits help if I already have shock skids?

Yes — see the section above. Different failure modes entirely.

Will these change my approach or departure angle?

Minimally. They follow the existing underbody line rather than hanging below it.

Aluminium or steel?

It varies by part, deliberately. Aluminium where weight matters and the job is coverage; steel where the impact energy justifies it — the rear shock skids are 3/16 steel for exactly that reason. Construction and weight are listed on each product page.

Is drilling required?

No. All kits use existing factory mounting points.
