Rear Shock Guards

Rear Shock Guards and Mud Flap Kits

Two ways to protect an exposed rear shock: billet-style aluminum guards over the shaft, and Rear Shock Guard Mud Flap Kits that stop tire roost before it ever reaches the shock.

Ford Raptor Gen 1, Gen 2 and Gen 3, Bronco, Bronco Raptor, Ranger Raptor, Ram TRX and Ram RHO. Designed, laser cut and built in Mesa, Arizona.

Two Different Jobs — Which One Do You Need?

Rear shocks get destroyed two different ways, and the two products in this collection address them separately. Most hard-use trucks end up running both.

  • Rear Shock Guard Mud Flap Kits stop the material before it arrives. An 18 inch by 7 inch heavy-duty rubber flap hangs on a steel bracket ahead of the shock and blocks the rocks, mud and roost the front tire throws straight back at it. This is the one that matters most on a truck with exposed shocks — long travel, bed cage side shock mounts, or any setup where the shock sits out in the open.
  • Full length aluminum shock guards armour the shock itself. A sleeve of aircraft grade 6061-T6 aluminum tubing goes over the factory plastic shaft guard and shields the shaft and the lower bolt area from what still gets through.

If you only buy one, buy the one that matches your exposure: mud flaps for roost and open shocks, aluminum guards for direct debris on a factory-position shock. Not sure? Call (480) 718-9800.

Rear Shock Guard Mud Flap Kits

This is a Foutz Motorsports design and it is not a truck mud flap. It is a purpose-built off-road shock guard that happens to use a rubber flap as the armour, because rubber absorbs a rock strike that would dent aluminum.

How it is built

  • 18" long x 7" wide heavy-duty rubber flap giving extended coverage over the whole rear shock.
  • Steel mounting bracket that bolts to the upper side of the OEM frame.
  • Bolt-on, no drilling. Uses factory frame mounting locations.

Fitment

  • 2010–2014 Ford Raptor (Gen 1) — frame mount kit. The driver-side flap has a built-in pass-through for the factory cable e-brake, with a reinforced backing plate so the rubber does not separate under off-road use.
  • 2019–2026 Ford Raptor (Gen 2 and Gen 3) — built around the factory Electronic Parking Brake configuration.
  • 2021+ Ford Bronco
  • 2022+ Ford Bronco Raptor
  • 2024+ Ford Ranger Raptor
  • 2021–2024 Ram TRX and 2027 Ram TRX
  • 2025+ Ram RHO

Strongly recommended on long travel rear setups with exposed shocks — Gen 3 Raptor and Ranger Raptor long travel bed cage kits with side shock mounts, the Bronco Raptor rear mid travel kit, and the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Raptor long travel 5-link coilover conversions. They also fit and work on standard-travel factory shocks.

Full Length Aluminum Shock Guards

Ford puts a thin plastic guard over the rear shock shaft. On pavement it does its job. Off-road it does not last — a rock strike cracks it, the crack lets grit in, the grit scores the shaft, and a scored shaft eats the seal. Then the shock leaks.

Our guard is a sleeve of aircraft grade 6061-T6 aluminum tubing, laser cut in-house, that goes over the factory plastic guard rather than replacing it. The plastic survives, the shaft stays clean, and the seal lives out its normal life.

Which one fits

  • Gen 3 Raptor and Raptor R (2021–2026) — full length guard, sold as a pair. There is a separate kit for trucks running the FOX 3.2 Live Valve Internal Bypass rear shock, which has a different body than the base shock.
  • Gen 2 and Gen 3 (2017–2025) — full length replacement guards, pair or single.
  • Gen 2 Raptor (2017–2024) — full length guard, sold singly.
  • Gen 1 Raptor (2010–2014) — full length replacement guards, pair or single.

Singles exist because damage is usually one-sided. If you tagged a rock on the driver side you do not need to buy two. Running the 3.2 Live Valve shock? Order that specific kit — the standard Gen 3 guard will not fit correctly over the larger body.

Guards and flaps cover the shock. They do not cover everything else back there:

Rear Shock Protection FAQs

What is the difference between a mud flap kit and an aluminum shock guard?

The mud flap kit blocks debris before it reaches the shock — an 18 x 7 inch rubber flap on a steel bracket, mounted ahead of the shock on the frame. The aluminum guard armours the shock shaft itself with a 6061-T6 sleeve over the factory plastic guard. Different jobs; they work well together.

Do I need a long travel kit to run a mud flap kit?

No. Long travel and side-shock-mount setups are where they matter most, because the shock is fully exposed, but the kits are designed to cover standard-travel factory shocks as well.

Is drilling required?

No. The mud flap kits bolt to factory frame mounting locations on the upper side of the frame. The aluminum guards clamp to the shock body.

My Raptor has a cable e-brake, not an electronic one. Does that matter?

Yes, it changes what has to route past the flap. The Gen 1 (2010–2014) kit has a built-in pass-through for the factory cable e-brake on the driver side. The 2019–2026 Gen 2 and Gen 3 kit is built for the Electronic Parking Brake configuration. If you have a 2017–2018 Gen 2 with the cable e-brake, call us at (480) 718-9800 before ordering.

Do I remove the factory plastic guard before fitting an aluminum guard?

No. The aluminum guard goes over the top of it, and the plastic piece stays and is protected.

Will these fit aftermarket shocks?

The aluminum guards are built around factory shock bodies, so an aftermarket shock with a different body diameter likely needs a different part — call us with the shock model. The mud flap kits mount to the frame rather than the shock, so they are far more tolerant of a shock swap, and they are the better answer on a long travel setup anyway.

What is an "extended" guard?

An older design that covered less of the shaft. Full length is what we build now.

Are these made in the USA?

Yes. Designed, laser cut and assembled in-house at our shop in Mesa, Arizona.
