Ram RHO Performance

The RHO is often described as the affordable TRX, and mechanically that is close to right: it inherits the off-road hardware and the chassis, and swaps the supercharged V8 for the twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six.

Here is the part that matters for brakes. Losing engine output does not meaningfully reduce the truck's mass, and mass is what the brakes have to deal with. A RHO on 35s or 37s is asking its rotors to absorb very nearly what a TRX asks of them. The straight-line acceleration is different; the physics of stopping is not.

So the factory brakes behave the same way under repeated hard use — fine for a single stop, progressively worse down a long descent or on a fast dirt road with corners. And progressive is the dangerous version, because it does not announce itself. You do not get one obvious failure; you get slightly longer stopping distances each time until one of them matters.

We build suspension and chassis parts, and we are consistent about the priority order on a heavy, fast truck: suspension first, brakes second, everything else after. That is what the race program taught us and it is what we sell.

On a RHO specifically, the argument is even stronger than on a TRX. The truck is not short of capability off the lot; it is short of margin when you load it up, put bigger tires on it, and use it hard. Control at the ends of suspension travel and brakes that survive a descent are what buy that margin back.

Is this the same kit as the TRX?

It is the Alcon kit listed for the Ram TRX platform. The RHO shares a great deal of chassis architecture with the TRX, which is why it is the kit we point RHO owners at — but confirm fitment for your specific truck and model year on the product page before ordering.

Will it clear my wheels?

Big brake kits need caliper clearance, and it is the inner barrel shape that decides it rather than diameter alone. Check the clearance information on the product page against your wheels before ordering, especially with an aftermarket wheel that has a lot of inboard spoke shape.

Do I need a rear kit as well?

Front-only is the standard upgrade and where most of the braking work happens.

Does the Hurricane six need different cooling or brakes than the Hemi?

Not for braking purposes. The brakes respond to vehicle mass, tire size and how hard you use them, not to what is making the power.
