Mid Travel Suspension Kits

The Raptor and Bronco Raptor bypass shocks are the FOX 3.0 Series 10" right and left, sold singly, or the ADS 3.0 x 10" 3-tube bypass, sold as a pair.

A mid travel kit gets about the same wheel travel as the stock setup. The difference is how that travel is controlled. The kit adds a second shock, an external bypass, plus a hydraulic bump stop and limit straps, so the truck handles big hits and fast rough terrain far better than it does on the factory shock alone.

• Mid travel: stock wheel travel with a second bypass shock and a bump stop. On the F-150 Raptor the kit is stock Raptor width, so no fiberglass is required, and the factory tie rods still work.
• Long travel: a +3" long travel kit makes every front component 3" longer per side, so the front is 6" wider and travel goes up, to as much as 17" on the Gen 2 and Gen 3 Raptor. It is the bigger build for a truck that wants maximum travel.

On a standard 2015 and up F-150, the Gen 2 kit brings the front out to Raptor width. See F-150 suspension upgrades for what that means for the body.

The Raptor front kits (Gen 1, Gen 2 and Gen 3) include fabricated lower control arms with 1.5" uniballs, upper control arms, frame mounts for the upper shock tower, and limit straps with mounting tabs. Pick the upper arm style:

• Billet upper arm: billet aluminum upper control arms.
• Fabricated upper arm: 4130 chromoly fabricated upper control arms.

The lower arm has a bump pad and limit strap mount built in. The front bump stop is a 2.5" diameter bump stop with 2.5" of stroke, mounted directly to the frame. The kits work with the stock front coil shock, including the factory Live Valve shock, or any aftermarket shock that fits the stock location, so the factory spring tower stays in place.

The Bronco Raptor and Ranger Raptor kits include billet upper control arms, fabricated lower control arms, the bypass shock mount, a front limit strap with bump stop, and sway bar linkage for the factory sway bar. Both work with the stock front coil shock. On the Ranger Raptor we suggest adding a 2" or 2.5" spring collar kit, or Geiser springs, to set ride height.

The second shock is a 3" external bypass that mounts to the lower arm, with an add-on shock mount structure that ties into the factory spring tower. The bypass shocks use a custom tube layout to clear the wheel, so they need to be ordered with the kit. An off-the-shelf bypass will not fit.

The bypass shock mounts weld on and should be installed by a qualified fabricator.

• Gen 2 Raptor 5-link rear: a bed cage with through-the-bed mounts for a 3.5 x 16" or 4.0 x 16" bypass, for nearly 17" of rear wheel travel. Raptor width only. A standard F-150 needs a Raptor-width rear axle and wider rear body. Requires substantial cutting and welding.
• Gen 3 Raptor through-the-bed rear: a 3.0 x 16" coil over or 3.5 x 16" bypass for 17" of rear wheel travel, up from 15" on stock-length links with the factory shock.
• Bronco Raptor rear: a rear shock hoop and lower shock mount with skid for a second 3.0 x 14" shock, plus a mount for a 2.5" hydraulic bump stop. It works with the stock rear coil over and was tuned around the factory rear spring with a 1" preload collar.

The bypass shock mounts and the front bump stop mount weld to the frame, so plan on a qualified fabricator for the install. The Gen 2 rear kit also requires substantial cutting and welding. Call the shop for application-specific details or to book an install in Mesa, Arizona.

What is mid travel suspension?

Mid travel suspension keeps about the same wheel travel as the stock setup and adds a second bypass shock and a hydraulic bump stop to control it. The result is better, more controlled travel.

Does a mid travel kit add wheel travel?

FMI front mid travel kits keep about the same wheel travel as stock and make every inch of it better controlled. For more total travel, step up to a long travel kit.

Do I need fiberglass with a mid travel kit?

Not on an F-150 Raptor. The Raptor front kits are stock Raptor width. On a standard 2015 and up F-150, the Gen 2 kit brings the front out to Raptor width.

Can I keep my stock shocks?

Yes. The front kits work with the stock front coil shock, including the factory Live Valve shock, or an aftermarket shock that fits the stock location. The bypass shock is added alongside it.

Can I use any bypass shock?

No. The front bypass shocks use a custom tube layout to clear the wheel, so order them with the kit from FMI.

Billet or fabricated upper arms?

The Gen 1, Gen 2 and Gen 3 Raptor kits come either way: billet aluminum upper arms or 4130 chromoly fabricated upper arms. The Bronco Raptor and Ranger Raptor kits use billet upper arms.

Does the kit require welding?

Yes. The bypass shock mounts and the front bump stop mount weld to the frame, so the kit should be installed by a qualified fabricator.

Which trucks have mid travel kits?
