2017-2020 Gen 2 Raptor +3" Long Travel Front Suspension Kit - Fabricated upper arm
Description
Description
A +3" long travel front suspension kit for the 2017–2020 Gen 2 Ford F-150 Raptor, with fabricated 4130 upper and lower arms, a bypass shock tower and extended 4340 half shafts. Every component is 3" longer than stock per side, for 6" of total added front width, and the kit is designed to increase wheel travel by 15%.
A stock-width front end runs out of travel and stability at the same time when speeds go up. Widening the track and lengthening the arms gives the suspension more room to work and keeps the truck stable at high speed on rough terrain. This is not a bolt-on kit; read the installation notes before you order.
What Is In The Kit
- +3" fabricated upper control arms
- Bypass shock tower
- +3" billet tie rod kit. The half billet tie rod is standard with this kit; the full billet version is shown.
- +3" fabricated lower control arms
- Custom heavy duty extended 4340 front half shafts
- Stainless braided brake line kit with custom FMI hard line mount tabs
- Limit strap kit
Optional add-on: Front Sway Bar Kit for FMI fabricated lower control arms.
Why Go +3"
Longer arms sweep a flatter arc through their travel, so the wheel moves further while the geometry changes less. A wider track spreads the truck's weight across a wider base, which is what keeps it planted at speed and in rough terrain.
The details are what make it last. This kit has built-in steering stops so the CV joints are never over-traveled, keeps the stock coil-over mount and location, and adds a bypass shock that is timed to the new geometry. It is 100% CAD designed to make sure the suspension cycles correctly.
Key Features
- Built-in steering stops so you don't over-travel the CV joints
- Retains the stock coil-over shock mount and location, so Live Valve keeps working on trucks equipped with it
- Also works with aftermarket stock-fitment replacement coil-overs
- Added bypass shock mount for a correctly timed bypass shock, with a FOX 3.0 or ADS 3.0 bypass option
- Fabricated bypass shock tower that integrates with the stock shock bucket for added strength and correct shock clearance
- Works with stock Raptor wheels
- Integrated sway bar mounts for the FMI sway bar kit, which can be added at any time
- Built-in front limit strap mounts
- Front bump stop pad integrated into the arm, so a bump stop can be added at any time
- Works with the stock front upright or the FMI heavy duty fabricated front upright
- Lower arm: 1.5" uniball at the spindle and 1" uniballs at the frame for consistent, predictable handling
- Upper arm: 1.5" uniball at the spindle and 7/8" rod ends at the frame for caster and camber adjustment
- Fabricated upper and lower arms in 4130, MIG welded
- 17-4 stainless uniball spacers for strength and longevity
- Half shafts in 4340 heat treated steel, chosen for strength, ductility, fracture toughness and fatigue resistance
Options
Bypass shock: shock mount only with no bypass shock, FOX 3.0" bypass with shock mount, or ADS 3.0" bypass with shock mount.
Bump stop: none, FOX bump stop and mount, or ADS bump stop and mount. Choosing FOX or ADS includes that hydraulic bump stop with the kit.
Not ready for a bypass shock or bump stop yet? You still get the long travel kit now and can add them later. The kit is designed to take those upgrades when you are ready.
Tire Clearance And Fenders
The kit was tested to clear 35", 37" and 39" tires from full bump to full droop. Wider fiberglass fenders are required; stock Raptor front fenders will not clear with this kit. The tire size you choose determines how much wider a fender you will need.
Fitment
2017–2020 Gen 2 Ford F-150 Raptor.
The extended 4340 half shafts use stock CV joints. Depending on your truck's year, you may need the 2021–2023 Gen 3 CV joints to work with the extended axle.
Installation
This +3" system requires some fabrication and modification to reach the kit's full capability.
- Before installation: a qualified professional fabricator is recommended to install the bump stop and bypass shock tower, because welding is required on the frame.
- Before installation: the kit requires a fiberglass fender kit to clear the tire. Stock Raptor front fenders will not clear.
- Before installation: the extended 4340 half shafts use stock CV joints, but depending on your truck's year you may need the 2021–2023 Gen 3 CV joints to work with the extended axle.
- After installation: it is highly advised to have the truck realigned by a shop technician who is familiar with long travel.
Questions
How much wider is the truck?
Each side is 3" longer than stock, for 6" of total added front width.
What tires will it clear?
It was tested to clear 35", 37" and 39" tires through full cycle, with wider fiberglass fenders.
Do I need fiberglass fenders?
Yes. Stock Raptor front fenders will not clear with this kit.
Will Live Valve still work?
The kit retains the stock coil-over shock mount and location, so a Live Valve equipped truck keeps its system working.
Is the bump stop included?
If you choose the FOX or ADS bump stop option, that hydraulic bump stop and its mount are included. Every kit has the bump stop pad built into the arm, so one can be added later.
Is the bypass shock tower included?
Yes. The bypass shock tower is in the kit. The bypass shock itself is an option.
Which tie rod comes with it?
The half billet tie rod is standard with this kit.
Do I need an alignment?
Yes. Have the truck realigned by a shop technician who is familiar with long travel.
Pair It With
Rear suspension. Pair this front kit with a cantilever or through-the-bed long travel rear so the rear suspension keeps up with the front. Foutz Motorsports worked with the team at Currie Enterprises to supply custom fabricated rear axle housing kits up-fit to work with the Gen 2 rear 5-link conversion kit. Our team custom fits the correct mounting tabs and mounts to work with the Gen 2 Raptor.
We suggest matching the width added at the front with a rear axle that is 3" wider per side, to keep proper handling characteristics. Leaving the rear axle at stock width, 3" narrower per side than the front, will cause the truck to handle poorly, especially when turning at higher speeds.
Lower arm pockets. The lower arm pocket replacement kit strengthens the frame pocket where the front of the +3" lower control arm attaches. That front pocket typically takes damage when the suspension stuffs and makes contact with the ground. The kit replaces the thin sheet metal section with a thicker chromoly pocket with added gussets, whether you are repairing a damaged pocket or upgrading before the frame is damaged.
