2010-2014 Gen 1 Raptor Long Travel 5-Link Rear Suspension Coil Over Conversion Kit for F150 and Gen 1 Raptors

Description

A long travel 5-link coil-over rear suspension conversion for the 2010–2014 Gen 1 Ford F-150 Raptor, replacing the leaf springs with a Gen 3 style 5-link and a 3.0 x 16" travel coil-over shock mounted through the bed. Billet aluminum upper and lower trailing arms on Ultra-Flex joints, a fabricated panhard bar with Johnny Joints, and an FMI bed cage with shock mount towers.

Leaf springs locate the axle and carry the load at the same time, and the rubber bushings at each end let the axle move around under power. A 5-link on more rigid joints makes the truck feel more predictable and limits the flex that turns into wheel hop, while the stock fuel tank stays in place and the truck still looks close to stock.

What Is In The Kit

  • 1 FMI bed cage with shock mount towers, base kit (fuel jug carriers, quick release jack kit and similar items are add-on options)
  • 2 FMI billet aluminum lower arms with Ultra-Flex joints
  • 2 FMI billet aluminum upper arms with Ultra-Flex joints
  • 1 FMI fabricated panhard bar with Johnny Joints
  • 1 fabricated panhard bar mount kit
  • 2 fabricated frame mount plate kits for the upper and lower arms
  • 1 rear axle plate kit with all of the mounts that are welded to the rear axle
  • 1 set of rear limit straps and mount tabs
  • 1 set of 22" long stainless steel braided brake lines
  • 1 kit with the hardware and spacers needed for install

Not included: coil springs, which must be purchased separately.

Why Convert To A 5-Link

A leaf spring is asked to do two jobs: hold the axle in place and support the truck. It does neither perfectly once speeds go up. The axle wraps under acceleration, and the rubber bushings that mount the stock parts deflect under load.

This kit separates those jobs. Billet links locate the axle, the panhard bar centers it, and the coil-over shock carries and controls it. The rear links are stock length from the Gen 3 Raptor with the mounts relocated, and the panhard bar is relocated for maximum travel. Replacing rubber bushings with more rigid Ultra-Flex joints makes the truck more predictable and limits the flex that turns into wheel hop.

How It Is Built

  • Ultra-Flex joints for all pivot locations
  • 17-4 stainless steel spacers
  • Urethane wobble stoppers
  • Grade 8 hardware
  • Billet aluminum upper and lower trailing arms
  • Frame mounts that locate the panhard bar and rear links

Shocks And The Bed Cage

The kit keeps the stock fuel tank and uses an FMI bed cage to mount the 3.0 x 16" travel coil-over shock through the floor of the bed, which gives the shock the length it needs for wheel travel and control.

It uses a standard 3.0 x 16" travel FOX or ADS coil-over shock. For the FOX shock you can use the standard race shock version or the internal bypass version. The kit is also sold with a no-shock option, so you can buy the coil-over separately if you prefer.

Options

Bed cage: bed cage for 2 stand-up tires with no add-ons, with a quick release jack, or with a quick release jack plus 2 fuel jugs and tray.

Shocks: no shocks, FOX 3.0 x 16" race version coil-over, or FOX 3.0 x 16" internal bypass coil-over.

Bump stop: no bump stop kit, or the FMI Gen 1 bump stop kit with FOX bump stop. Choosing it includes the FOX hydraulic bump stop. The Gen 1 bump stop kit works with this long travel kit and helps handle big hits and control the last few inches of wheel travel.

Also available as add-ons: quick release jack mount and dual fuel jug tray.

Fitment

2010–2014 Gen 1 Ford F-150 Raptor. The stock rear axle can be used; the kit comes with all of the weld-on mounts for the conversion.

Installation

This kit requires moderate fabrication and welding. All of the weld-on mounts for the axle and frame are included.
