The factory bump stop is there to stop the axle from hitting the frame. It does that by compressing, and once it is compressed the rest of the energy goes straight into the chassis. That is the harsh bottom-out you feel on a big hit.

A hydraulic bump stop is a small damper that works in the last part of the suspension's travel. It slows the axle down before it reaches the end, so the biggest bumps are soaked up rather than transmitted, and it improves the ride in rough terrain.

Yes. It bolts on to the rear frame with no real modifications, and the lower bump pad bolts on to the stock axle.
