2017-2018 Ford Raptor Alcon Big Brake Kits
Alcon front and rear big brake kits for the 2017–2018 Ford Raptor. Alcon is what we specified for our own race truck program, which is why it is what we sell.
A Raptor is a heavy truck carrying real speed on 35s or larger, and the factory brakes are the first thing to complain about it.
Front and Rear
- Alcon Big Brake Kit — Front (2017–2018 Raptor)
- Alcon Big Brake Kit — Rear (2017–2018 Raptor)
Each kit includes calipers, rotors, and the brackets and hardware to mount them. They can be run front-only or as a matched front and rear package.
Alcon is an OE-level motorsport brake manufacturer — they supply factory performance programs, not just the aftermarket. That is a different category of part from a drilled-and-slotted rotor with a fresh coat of paint.
What Actually Goes Wrong With Factory Raptor Brakes
It is worth being precise about this, because the common assumption is wrong.
The factory brakes will stop the truck. What they will not do reliably is stop it repeatedly. A single hard stop from speed is fine. Six of them down a mountain grade, or a fast dirt road with corners at the end of each straight, is where the system runs out — the pedal goes long, the bite fades, and the stopping distance quietly doubles.
That is thermal capacity, not clamping force, and it is why the answer is a bigger rotor rather than a stickier pad. A larger rotor has more mass to absorb heat and more surface area to shed it. Multi-piston calipers spread pad pressure more evenly, which keeps the friction consistent as things get hot.
Add 37s, a bed rack, a spare and fuel, and you have increased both the rotating mass and the vehicle weight the original system was sized for. The margin the factory built in is already spent.
Raptor Brake FAQs
Why 2017-2018 only?
These kits are listed for the 2017 and 2018 Raptor. Later Gen 2 trucks and Gen 3 Raptors use different fitments — there is a separate Alcon kit for the 2021 and up Gen 3. Call (480) 718-9800 with your year if you are unsure.
Do I need a specific wheel?
Big brake kits require wheel clearance, and it is the inner barrel shape that matters, not just the diameter. Check the caliper clearance information on the product page against your wheel before ordering — particularly with an aftermarket wheel that has a lot of inboard spoke shape.
Do I need the rear kit if I buy the front?
Not necessarily. Roughly 70 percent of braking work happens at the front, so a front-only upgrade is a common and effective first step. The rear kit balances the system for trucks that see sustained high-speed use or run heavy loads.
Are these street legal?
Yes. These are performance brake upgrades intended for street and off-road use, not race-only components.
Will I need to change brake fluid or lines?
The kits include the hardware listed on the product page. On any truck that sees repeated hard braking, high-temperature fluid is worth doing at the same time — fluid boils long before pads give up.
Is a big brake kit worth it on stock tires?
Less so. If the truck is on factory-size tires and driven normally, the factory brakes are adequate. The case gets strong once you add tire size, weight, or sustained hard use.
