Foutz Motorsports Vegas to Reno Race report

A long time ago I made fun of another racer for rolling his truck like 5 races in a row.  Now I am regretting that comment as we have now had a perfect year.  3 races and 3 roll overs this year.  At least this time it was my partner in crime Dave Winner who did the honors at about race mile 33 just before pit one of the Vegas to Reno off road race put on by Best in the Desert.

Dave found a newly formed ditch that was not the same shape during the pre-run earlier in the month.  Trying to pass a slower 1600 car he found the ditch in the dust at speed and launched our 7000 lb truck in the air and did a full flip end over end in the air before landing on the roof and back bumper of the truck.  Thank God they were not seriously injured.  The main cage in the truck did its job and held with minor damage.  The body work was another issue.  Every piece of sheet metal was bent in some way including the brand new front bumper we built just a couple of days before the race.

Dave and Doug got the truck back up on the wheels and got in to Pit 1 for some help with things by the fabulous Foutz Motorsports and Fabtech team members.  They bent the sheet metal out of the tires and gave a quick pep talk to Dave and sent them out to us at Pit 2.  As they drew near to the pit we realized that all of the other trucks had been held up in a traffic jam for a while so they hadnt lost much time.  We spoke with them on the radio when they were near to the pit and they both decided they wanted out of the truck.  Dave had injured his wrist and Doug said his back and neck were sore.  With that new plan of attack Steve (fabtech designer) and I had about 3 minutes to suit up and take over the driving duties for the remainder of the race.

We got in and I looked the truck over from the inside to see if the cage showed any cracks or anything that would be unsafe.  I didnt see any issue and thus we buckled in and shot out of there on a mission to catch the other guys in the stock full class.  It wasnt long before we started passing the other guys in the class and found ourselves in 2nd place before pit 4.  The only one still ahead of us was Josh Hall now and he had a substantial lead.

I tried and tried but was unable to run Josh Hall down at the finish.  We ended up 2nd after a hard day of crashing and being caught up in the slower cars dust for long periods of time.  I take my hat off to Josh for a great race.

In closing I wanted to thank God first for all that he allows us to do and for his protection in our daily lives.  I also want to thank all of our sponsors for their help over the years.  A special thanks to Ford and Cliff Irey for the help and the long standing relationship we share.  Also to Fabtech and Dave Winner for the support and for rolling the truck for me so I didnt have to this time.  Also BF Goodrich for the awesome tires that hook us up.  And all of the others like MasterCraft, Optima Batteries,  KC HiLites, Deaver Spring, Dirt Logic Shocks, Painless, Earls, Hooker Headers,  EMJ Metals,  Racer for Christ, Howe Performance,  McKenzies, and ESPECIALLY Kales Collision Center.
